Safety and Insurance
The KWCA encourages responsible, safe practice across wildfowling, air rifle and fishing activities. Members should follow all site rules, legal requirements, consent conditions and Association guidance.
Safety afloat
Much KWCA shooting can involve boat access, particularly around the Medway and Swale. Members using boats should choose stable, buoyant, seaworthy craft, carry essential safety equipment, understand tides and navigation, monitor weather forecasts, and always tell a responsible person where they are going and when they expect to return.
Essential boat safety equipment includes life jackets, stout oars, a good anchor, compass, torch, distress flares and a mobile phone. If someone fails to return, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Severe weather
During prolonged freezing weather, Government ministers can suspend shooting of wildfowl and waders under the Wildlife and Countryside Act. BASC and statutory bodies operate a severe weather process, including voluntary restraint before any statutory suspension.
